I work on the Osmosis project - Ocean surface Mixing, Ocean Sub-mesoscale Interaction Study, which aims to develop new, physically-based parameterisations of processes that deepen and shoal the ocean surface boundary layer. As part of this project, two Seagliders were deployed in September 2012 at the Porcupine Abyssal Plain site in the North Atlantic, to measure the structure and evolution of the ocean surface boundary layer over the seasonal cycle. The gliders measure temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, dive-averaged currents, chlorophyll fluorescence, CDOM fluorescence and PAR. I am working with the Seaglider data, examining the water masses found in the area, and the deepening and shoaling of the mixed layer. In collaboration with colleagues at NOCS, we aim to consider the impact of mixed layer depth on the biogeochemistry.

Detection, quantification, distribution and long-term trends of halocarbons in the atmosphere, particularly in the upper troposphere, the stratosphere, the remote troposphere and the air trapped in deep firn. Furthermore I am interested in fractional release, lifetimes and isotope fractionation of long-lived halocarbons in the stratosphere.

I am interested in the combined ocean-atmosphere Earth system. At present, though, I am researching techniques for predicting global precipitation at the daily scale -- and how land surface models can be used to simulate future ground water stores using these new predictions.

My research interests regard the interaction of various components of the global climate system, particularly the interaction between ocean and atmosphere and ocean and ice.  I am currently working as a postdoctoral researcher on the NERC iSTAR project, studying the melting of Antarctic glaciers and how this relates to ocean variability around Antarctica.
