The Sport, Health and Education (SHE) research area brings together colleagues in the School of Education and Lifelong Learning whose research expertise centres on four themes:

Gender and Media in Sport
Coach and Teacher Education
Health and Physical Activity in Society
Group members are currently working on a range of projects across these four areas including:
- Professional identity of teachers of PE
- The development of pupils' and teachers' health content knowledge
- Exploring the effects of motivational profiles in PE across educational transitions
- Descriptions of the men's and women's GB football teams in The Times newspaper during the 2012 Olympics Games
- Decorative women in sports media coverage in The Observer.
Dr Kim Bartholomew: Motivation in sport, exercise and education
Dr Lee Beaumont : Research interests lie in the area of Physical Education pedagogy, with a particular emphasis on health-related policy and practice within the physical education curriculum and the promotion of healthy, active lifestyles in young people.
Dr Amy Pressland: The intersection of gender, sport sociology, traditional and social medias with representation, national identity, bodies, stereotyping, femininity and masculinity.
Dr Kate Russell: Gender, bodies and sexuality in sport, physical education and school contexts.
Dr Victoria Warburton: Motivation in sport, health and physical education, psychology of physical activity and health.
Postgraduate student members
There are opportunities for postgraduate and doctoral study in Sport, Health and Education through EDUs PhD, EdD, MRes and MA programmes.
