The School of Chemistry has a reputation for innovation, excellence and world leading research. The application of this research in a commercial context can be seen with its spin out company Intelligent Fingerprinting. Formed in 2009, the company are developers of world leading fingerprint processing technologies for application within the forensic science and law enforcement market. Intelligent Fingerprinting recently raised £2million in funding from a consortium of private US-based investors, which will allow their unique product to be marketed worldwide.
The University has a wide range of managed facilities and services available for hire. This includes the Energy Materials Laboratory , which is a state of the art facility for synthesis, electrochemistry and spectroscopic studies of molecular, supramolecular and nano systems for energy harvesting, transduction and storage.
