International Chair for Creative Writing International Chair for Creative Writing

Stories change the world. And so can you.

As we look forward to the 50th anniversary of creative writing at UEA in 2020/21 we are proud to launch UEA’s International Chair for Creative Writing.

This bold new plan to stand up for global voices will draw on 50 years of creative writing at UEA and support talented emerging writers to become global leaders for the academic craft of creative writing.

But we can’t do it alone.

Help establish the International Chair of Creative Writing

With your support, we want to create a new international community committed to the creation of new writing and empowering diverse literary writers. And leading this community will be our International Chair of Creative Writing.

The Chair role will be awarded to the highest calibre of writer; those who are able to cross boundaries and inspire. This exciting new programme will see five Chairs each take on the role for one year, during which time they will lead the way for emerging writers and highlight unheard voices and stories from their regions and territories.

Alongside the International Chairs, we plan to create 50 International Scholarships for the Creative Writing programme, giving the world’s most promising new voices a life-changing opportunity to study at UEA.

Together, a community of supporters will help stories to be written that will engage, inspire and remind us of our common humanity. In short, we aim to change the faces, and voices, of global literature for the next 50 years. Will you join us?
