UEA will use its position as a thought leader in environmental sustainability research and an anchor institution in the East of England to mobilise our students and staff to support action in our local community as well as nationally and internationally. We will build on the foundations we have established through decades of public engagement with science. There are many areas where we can contribute including economic growth and green jobs, public health and well-being, conservation and bio-diversity, land and coastal management, social equity and quality of life, technological advancement, and policy development and decision-making. Within our region, we will leverage our expertise and convening power to work across key sectors, including agriculture, energy, transport, financial services, tourism and the creative industries. We will use our position to advocate nationally and internationally to maximise influence and impact, for example through our input into the UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties.
The university already undertakes a wealth of activity in this arena that we can build on, but we need to collate the extent of these activities and their impact as the first stage of a process to increase our thought leadership and influence on local, national and international organisations.
