My name is Lauren Aarons, and I graduated from the BA in Broadcast and Multimedia Journalism in 2023. I think the UEA journalism team is just brilliant. I never thought I’d come to university let alone make it to my third year, but the UEA journalism team have made it such a welcoming environment and supported my additional needs. It feels like a workplace, not a course. The respect works both ways and I think the team have really nailed that balance. No idea is too big or small to develop, they really want you to produce the work that you want to do which is so important in a subject like journalism where there are so many niches that you can go into. They encouraged me and positively challenged me to explore a variety of opportunities.

Through what I have learnt, the guest speakers and external trips on offer I have been able to network with people within the industry. In between my second and third years I secured a freelance job in production support with BBC Look East which I did alongside my degree. That was a dream and an incredible foot on the ladder to have so early in my career. I also worked as a runner for the Associated Press during the Queen’s funeral.
