Transforming education networks into real-world impact

SimCast

SimCast connects a global simulation community of practice, bringing together educators, clinicians, commercial partners, leaders and innovators to share best practice, challenge assumptions, and accelerate better ways of working. By creating a platform for generous conversation and cross-sector exchange, SimCast surfaces excellent ideas, builds meaningful partnerships, and turns insight into growth, innovation and practical change.

Alongside this, OnSITE Insight extends simulation beyond traditional education settings. Built around the concept of transformative simulation, it helps organisations understand how work really happens, not just how procedures imagine it should. Through immersive workplace simulation, debriefing and systems-focused analysis, OnSITE Insight supports organisations to test readiness, strengthen safety culture, improve efficiency and learn from complex events, including major incidents.

Together, these initiatives show how university expertise can convene communities, unlock commercial opportunity, and transform education networks into impact where it matters.

Industry partnership with real word impact

Software company NeuroVirt have been collaborating with School of Health Sciences researcher Dr Kathryn Mares for over five years.

This collaboration has resulted in multiple highly competitive research grants funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research, Small Business Research Initiative, Innovate UK, Knowledge Transfer Network, and the Stroke Association. This work has shaped the scientific framework underpinning NeuroVirt’s immersive XR neurorehabilitation and diagnostics platform, ensuring that product development was grounded in robust clinical reasoning, co-design principles, and meaningful outcome validation. This work has directly informed NeuroVirt’s commercialisation here and in the UK.

The Nourishing Norfolk Programme

The Nourishing Norfolk programme, run by Norfolk Community Foundation, has created the UK’s first network of affordable food hubs with its own central warehouse. These are not food banks, but local shops where people can choose affordable groceries and also find friendly advice and support with wider challenges they are facing. The evaluation, led by Dr Sarah Hanson found that the programme is delivering huge benefits for Norfolk. For every £1 put in, it creates £6.54 in social value, by improving health, easing money worries, and strengthening community life. It is the first time a scheme like this in the UK has been tested so thoroughly, setting a new benchmark nationally.
