Fabio Aricò is a Senior Lecturer in Macroeconomics in the School of Economics.
He is an award winning teacher, recipient of a UEA Excellence in Teaching award in 2015, and commended by the Union of Students, and the Economics Society at UEA. Fabio’s teaching philosophy is grounded on the principle that students should develop academic self-efficacy, defined as student confidence in performing academic tasks, and achieving academic goals. Self-assessment and Peer-instruction are the pedagogies that he uses more intensively to foster student confidence, often combined with a dialogic approach to feedback.
Fabio is well experienced at teaching within large class environments, and he makes use of technology-enhanced learning approaches to deliver a personalised teaching experience to large. Fabio conducts evidence-based pedagogical research and evaluation of his teaching methods. His research was supported by the HEA, the UEA Annual Fund, and presented to a large number of national and international conferences.
Fabio is currently working on a national projected funded by HEFCE to pilot and evaluate measures of learning gain. Within this project, he leads research on the concept of ‘confidence gain’ as measure for pedagogical effectiveness.
