The University of East Anglia (UEA) is supporting students and their families ahead of A-level results day with a new suite of free, practical resources – including expert guidance and a series of interactive webinars designed to ease uncertainty around Clearing.
Alongside a dedicated webpage, the resources include a brand-new guide, Supporting Applicants through UCAS Clearing, which is tailored specifically for parents, carers, teachers and advisers. The guide provides clear, up-to-date advice and guidance to help support applicants through every stage of Clearing with confidence.
UEA is also hosting a programme of free online webinars led by its Higher Education advice team, with insights from current students and student support staff. These sessions will offer practical tips, answer common questions and help attendees feel more prepared to navigate the process.
According to a 2025 survey by Censuswide, only one in eight (12%) parents and carers understand the Clearing process while one in five (20%) believe their children feel unprepared to make decisions – highlighting a significant confidence gap.
These new resources are all part of UEA’s commitment to making Higher Education more accessible and less stressful for prospective students, empowering them and their support networks to approach Clearing with clarity and confidence.
Holly Gilman, a mature student in the final year of her English Literature and History degree, came to UEA through Clearing.
Before joining the University, Holly (shown below) had a nine-year career in London, though she had been considering a degree for many years. In 2022, after exploring every option open to her, she looked into her local university, UEA.
For anyone thinking of going through Clearing, she offers this advice: “If you've chosen the university that you are interested in – go and speak to the Outreach team. They will fill you in on anything you need to know.
“For me, it was largely about the practicalities of studying whilst caring for my family, but they will be able to help with anything. You will come out of that meeting feeling so much more confident in what comes next and the options available to you are.”
