As the year draws to a close and the festive season approaches, I am reminded once again of the strength and spirit that define our university community.
In what continues to be a challenging time for higher education, we have not only endured but flourished – making headlines with remarkable achievements across education and research into climate, creative arts and health innovation. These successes are a reflection of the belief, generosity, and shared purpose that connect all of us – our alumni, donors, staff and students, and regional supporters.
This year also marked the first anniversary of our new fundraising campaign, Dare to Do Different, and what a year it has been. Thanks to your enthusiasm and support, the campaign has already achieved meaningful impact, a detailed account of which you will find in this edition of our newsletter. You help sustain not only our programmes and research, but also the promise of opportunity for every student who walks through our doors.
Equally inspiring has been the growing energy of our alumni community. From global gatherings celebrating our university’s birthday to mentoring students, contributing to case studies, offering career talks, internships, and volunteering their expertise – our alumni continue to embody the spirit of engagement and generosity that lies at the heart of UEA. Whether near or far, your involvement strengthens our shared mission and reminds us that UEA’s reach truly extends around the world.
As we look ahead, we do so with optimism and gratitude - grateful for the trust you place in us, and optimistic about what we will continue to accomplish together.
On behalf of all of us at UEA, I wish you a joyful festive season and a new year filled with peace, good health, and renewed inspiration.
Warm regards,
Prof David Maguire
