Meet Gregory Blake

Gregory Blake is a current UEA Film and Television Production student with professional ambitions in the screen industry.

As the videographer behind our 2025 Scholarship Reception film, Greg brought talent, enthusiasm and a strong creative vision to the project – capturing powerful stories and moments from the event and editing them into a film that truly celebrates the impact of scholarships at UEA.

Tell us a bit about yourself – what are you studying at UEA, and what drew you to Film & TV?

Hi! I'm Greg, I'm currently studying Film and Television Production here at UEA. I've always been a creative person my entire life and wanted to tell stories, so when I felt lost on where to go during my A-Levels, I was drawn to the idea of creating films! One of the deciding factors was going into the University's Television Studio – I knew from the moment I stepped foot inside that this was the environment I belonged.

What was your role in producing the scholarship reception film?

For this scholarship reception film, I was given the task of getting footage covering the event, but most importantly being the one to tell the stories of these accomplished scholarship students at the event. I had the pleasure of editing the film and bringing it to life!

What was your favourite part of the process?

My favourite part easily was filming the reception. I love the process of filming, capturing the emotions of the guests and that great feeling when the perfect shot lines up! It's a great atmosphere and feels even better to capture that feeling on video.

How did this opportunity help you develop your skills or confidence?

I definitely feel so much more comfortable going into this kind of 'run & gun' type of shooting, where you have no idea what twists or turns might happen in the moment. Also, a skill that I've been able to work on while filming this is discussing and working with clients. Even though it doesn't seem like the hardest skill, I found it incredibly valuable and a great professional experience.

Do you have any advice for other students looking to gain experience while studying?

My one piece of advice for those looking to gain experience while studying would definitely be: Take initiative. Personally, I feel like opportunities like this I owe to the amount of time I put into honing my craft in my own time and making a name for myself – from reading on how to improve getting out there and filming everything and anything. Get out there and make your film!
