Postgraduate research (PGR) provision at the University includes research programmes leading to Masters by Research (MA and MSc), Master of Philosophy (MPhil), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and other research-based qualifications across a range of subjects.
The Postgraduate Research Students Office is based in the Elizabeth Fry Building (Room 2.30). There is also the Graduate Studies Office for students based at the Norwich BioScience Institutes (NBI), at the John Innes Centre (Room G.38)
The Head of the PGR Students Office and PGR Senior Managers provide support to the Academic Director of Postgraduate Research Programmes, Faculty Associate Deans (PGR) as appropriate, the Postgraduate Research Programmes Policy Group and a number of working groups. Advice is provided on the following:
- regulations for research programmes and instructions to examiners
- guidance on good practice including application of the Code of Practice for Research Degrees
- application of and adherence to University policies and procedures in relation to postgraduate research students and active development of new procedures;
- UEA and QAA Codes of Practice;
- policy relating to Postgraduate Research Studentships (including those provided by UEA and the UK Research Councils);
- academic appeals and academic complaints
- provision of, and monitoring of management information relevant to postgraduate research provision.
The Academic Director of Postgraduate Research programmes is Dr Nick Watmough, Reader in the School of Biological Sciences, the Head of the PGR Students Office is Vivien Easson and the PGR Senior Managers are Melanie Steele (FMH/SCI), Tracey Oak (HUM/SSF) and Kate Conway (NBI).
