Welcome to Music

UEA's School of Music is a small, lively community of academics, students and researchers housed in award-winning purpose-built accommodation.

The School is currently going through an exciting period of expansion, appointing additional lecturers,  introducing a new degree course in 'Music and Technology' which will run in parallel with its existing 'Music' degree course, and extending its buildings.

The effectiveness of the School's diverse group of academic staff, many of whom are involved in both composition and performance activities, is widely recognised, most recently and most publicly in The Guardian's University guide tables of May 2009, in which it is ranked fifth. Only Oxford University scores more highly, the other high-scoring institutions all being conservatories. All teaching within the School is research-led, growing directly from the practices and engagements of the members of faculty.

The School was founded by eminent practitioners, and retains a strong ethos of 'music as practice' - as something which people do. There are an unusually high proportion of research students, and a regular programme of concerts, visiting lectures and seminars, residencies, and numerous opportunities for performance including UEA's Orchestra and Choir .

The School has the highest graduate employment record within the University (excluding professional schools).
