Welcome to Language and Communication Studies

Contemporary culture, language and translation issues in the context of rapid globalisation are the focus of study in the School of Language and Communication Studies.
The School recently changed its name to The School of Language and Communication Studies. This name reflects developments in the School's teaching and research. There have been no changes in our distinctive undergraduate programmes which involve the study of French and/or Spanish language to degree level in conjunction with media and translation, translation and interpreting, management studies, or international development studies.
Our MA programmes address issues of international exchange via translation, cross-cultural communication and linguistics, and cater for an extensive range of languages.
Cross-cultural pragmatics, translation and adaptation, phonetics, discourse analysis, computational linguistics and IT mediated language learning are some of the research areas in which we specialise.
The University also offers an MA in Literary Translation, run by the School of Literature and Creative Writing.
