International Deposit

In order to secure a place on your chosen programme of study (subject to meeting the terms of any offer made), we require that all overseas Postgraduate Taught Masters and Postgraduate Research applicants pay a minimum £2,000 deposit.  The deadlines for us to receive the International Deposit are:

  • Postgraduate Taught Masters - 31 July
  • Postgraduate Research - 3 months prior to the start of the course (for courses starting on or after 1 April 2011).

If we receive your deposit after the deadline, we are unable to guarantee your place on your course. We will not issue a CAS for an applicant's student visa until their deposit has been received.

Payment of the deposit will:

  • Hold open your offer of a place at the University, subject to the fulfilment of any conditions of your offer, at which point a place to study on your chosen programme will be allocated. We may give your place to another applicant if you do not pay your deposit by the deadline.
  • Secure a place in residential accommodation on campus for eligible applicants, subject to the return of an Accommodation Preference Form by the stated deadline and the terms and conditions outlined by the Accommodation Office
  • Secure your CAS which is needed to obtain your student visa. Follow the guidance on our Applying for Your Student Visa pages and/or the advice of your local UEA representative/agent wherever possible (see specific country pages on this site to see our approved representatives/agents). Your CAS will not be issued until your deposit is received and all the conditions of your offer have been met.

Payment of your deposit can be made in several ways:

  1. Uni-Pay is our preferred option for receiving payments from students who are outside the UK. Uni-Pay provides a quick and simple method for international payments by local bank transfer. Go to the UEA Uni-Pay portal at www.uea.ac.uk/international/Uni-Pay
  2. Pay via credit card by ringing the UEA Cashiers Office during UK business hours (TEL: +44 1603 592687) and giving your credit card details over the telephone.

  3. Pay by direct bank transfer to the UEA account shown on the Payment Notice Form. If you choose to pay this way, please send this form to the address or fax number below or submit the online Payment Notice Form. Please note there can be severe delays in receiving payment by direct bank transfer from abroad and you are responsible for any fees. This may be the best way to pay within the UK however.

Please note that the name of the bank account to pay your deposit to is 'University of East Anglia'

Note that you may pay more than the required deposit if you wish.  We can receive up to 100% of tuition fees and funds towards on campus accommodation. See our Pre-Payment Instructions for full details.  Any amount received will be listed in your CAS and deducted from the amount you will need to show in-country to gain your visa.

Please note that:

  • Visa letters (CASs) will not be sent to students until a deposit has been received (or waived)
  • The amount received will be listed in the CAS and on the UKBA system, reducing the amount of funds needed to prove in the visa application process
  • The deposit cannot be offset against any scholarship offered by the University of East Anglia
  • The deposit may be waived where the admitting School of Study is provided with evidence that you have secured funding from your government or an agency which covers the full cost of your studies
  • The deposit will be offset against the first fee instalment following Registration

Refunds Policy:

  • Appeals for a refund should be submitted to the relevant Faculty Admissions Office
  • The deposit paid will be reimbursed in full if evidence of a visa rejection is received and verified from the relevant UKvisa office. Refunds will not be given however if the reason for the visa rejection is due to the failure to follow UKBA guidance or submission of fraudulent documents.
  • Refunds will also be made to conditional offer-holders who pay their deposit then fail to meet the conditions of the University's offer of a place
  • Any offer-holder who wishes to defer their place to the following year will have any deposit deferred as well, the deposit will not be refunded
  • Offer holders who change their minds and decide not to take up their place will not be entitled to a refund of the required deposit paid
  • Any advance payments made to the University in excess of the required deposit amount will be refunded upon request
  • Refunds will only be made to the individual or organisation who originally paid the deposit. If a third party has paid the deposit on behalf of the applicant we are unable to refund the deposit directly to the applicant.
  • Refunds will be made as soon as possible. Exact times may vary depending upon the reason for the requested refund and the method by which original payment was made.
  • Due to money laundering regulations, refunds can only be made to the account from which the payment was made originally. Proof of payment such as a receipt or a bank statement showing payment from that account must be produced. We will also need the bank's SWIFT or BIC code in order to make a refund. Failure to do so will delay the refund severely or prevent it altogether.
