Careers & Employability
University of East Anglia
Welcome to Careers & Employability at UEA. Our mission is to help our students build the futures they want. We provide opportunities and support throughout to ensure our graduates leave with a rich university experience and prepared for the workplace or further study.
Students
We see the potential in you - that's why we work to help you discover career paths, find suitable experience, reflect on your development and identify next steps. Below you will find links through to our services for job vacancies, careers events, advice and guidance appointments and much more.
Jobs & Experience
If you're looking for a job while studying we advertise over 1,000 vacancies a year to UEA students. These include part-time work on campus, in and around Norwich, and volunteering.
Gaining work experience whilst at university can be crucial in developing employability. We will support you to arrange your own work experience and in addition we offer a variety of opportunities including On-campus, Summer and Graduate Internship programmes.
'...a wide range of opportunities is available to all students.'
Events
Careers & Employability offers a comprehensive annual programme of events including careers fairs, alumni events and employer presentations; as well as skills workshops and training, enterprise support and career management sessions on topics such as CVs, work experience, networking and coaching.
Careers Guidance and Mentoring
Finding the right path can be tricky, that's why our team of careers advisers are professionally trained to support you, whether it is discussing your options, overcoming obstacles to progress, presenting yourself to employers or finding opportunities. Our career mentoring programme allows you to talk directly with alumni and employers.
Enterprise
Much of our work with students focuses on helping them to become more enterprising. This means developing a set of skills and capabilities that will give you a competitive advantage in a rapidly changing global jobs market.
To help you develop your enterprising skills our teams host talks, challenges and competitions, as well as giving advice on starting a business. Check our events page regularly.
Researchers
Whether you are a postgraduate research student or a member of our research staff, you can benefit from our services, which include career and professional development workshops and a team of specialist advisers.
In collaboration with colleagues in Schools and Faculties, we can help you to develop your career within academia or to explore wider options beyond university teaching and research.
We also provide specific enterprise activities for research students, to help you become more 'enterprising' by developing a set of skills and capabilities that will give you a competitive edge. Watch our events calendar or blackboard for more information. You are also welcome to attend any of our extra curricula events unless otherwise stated.
'...develop a range of skills that will give you a competitive edge.'
Academic Schools
Careers & Employability collaborates with all UEA Schools in developing student employability and enterprise. Our staff deliver workshops and events as well as liaising closely with lead staff in schools and faculties.
We advise colleagues on a range of issues related to careers and employability including embedding activity within the curriculum, work-based learning and contact with employer sectors.
We also manage a central programme of internships for undergraduates and graduates as well as mentoring from employers and enterprise activities. We work closely with colleagues in Research and Enterprise Services (REN) and Alumni to support Schools in developing programmes of work experience and employer involvement.
Please see our services for students for more information about how we support students in your School.
Alumni
At UEA we believe in creating long term relationships with our alumni, from helping you to find employment to providing you with opportunities to connect with current students and develop your skills. We want you to feel that you are always part of the university.
If you're a graduate looking for a job you can register with our Graduate Vacancy Service accessible from the UEA alumni portal. If you're a recent graduate seeking initial experience you can benefit from our Graduate Internship Programme, which can help you secure a paid internship across a range of industries. This can help you to develop valuable skills and gain workplace experience that will greatly enhance your CV.
We are always interested in hearing from alumni who would like to connect with current students at UEA whether it's to give a talk to your old school, as a speaker on our lecture series or a potential employer please get in touch and tell us how you'd like to work with us.
We are also looking for alumni interested in mentoring a UEA student in finding and navigating their way to graduate employment. The time commitment ranges from as little as 30 minutes by telephone, providing one-off mentoring advice, to six hours over six months, providing a longer mentoring relationship. If you're interested in helping a student through mentoring we would love to hear from you.

Employers
As an employer looking to work with the University, we can offer you a wide range of services from helping you to employ our graduates and students, support an event, challenge or competition or deliver a talk directly to students.
For instance, careers fairs are a great chance to meet students and get them excited about your business. If you would like to promote your company with a stand at one of our careers fairs please contact: careers.events@uea.ac.uk
Careers & Employability offers a fast, free vacancy advertising service for local, national and international employers looking to recruit students for part-time and seasonal vacancies and graduates from a university in the top 1% worldwide. We can help you to save on advertising and agency costs; avoid red tape with our short online forms; and build your business with eager, bright and increasingly skilled staff.
Perhaps you'd prefer to employ an intern? This is a proven way for businesses and third sector organisations to inject fresh talent into the work place. To that end we run the Graduate Internship Programme, which offers organisations like yours the opportunity to work with a recent graduate for up to 12 weeks, either part-time or full-time.
Finally we at UEA are always looking to develop our links with industry in our curriculum, so perhaps your company feels it could offer specialist knowledge or advice to students on an existing programme or possibly work with us to develop a totally new course. We are always looking for partners and are keen to hear from you.
