Welcome to the Careers & Employability service at UEA, we have a simple mission: to help our students build the futures they want. To achieve this we link your academic study to extra curricula activities and a range of personal support that is designed to help you develop skills and capabilities to achieve your career goals.
The importance of careers and employability in higher education is increasing with every passing year and we believe in providing a dynamic service that thrives on connecting the right people to the right opportunities. As part of this work we also liaise with the local community, regional businesses, national employers, university staff and alumni, just take a look around site to see how we could help you.
Students
We see the potential in you - that's why you're here at UEA! So, our team won't mould you into a stereotype, instead we will work to help you discover career paths or identify next steps. We then work with you to plan how to achieve your aims. Along the way we will give you opportunities to connect with industry, develop your skills and build a portfolio of experience that will set you apart in the competitive global jobs market.
So, What Do We Do?
Our advice and guidance services take you from initial thoughts and ideas through to possible routes for your future. You might, for example, begin with careers closely related to your course and expand to consider many other options open to graduates. We then work to enable you to experience different vocations, working environments and employers first hand.
We offer numerous workshops, talks and careers fairs will also allow you to meet with prospective employers, gain insight from successful entrepreneurs and connect with international UEA alumni in a wide range of industries to inform and inspire your decisions.

Events
Careers & Employability offers a comprehensive annual programme of events including careers fairs, alumni events, employer presentations as well as skills workshops and training, enterprise support and career management sessions on topics such as CVs, work experience, networking and coaching.
Careers Advice and Guidance
Finding the right path can be tricky, that's why our team of careers advisers are professionally trained to support you, whether it is discussing your options, overcoming obstacles to progress, presenting yourself to employers or finding opportunities.
We give feedback on CVs, applications and covering letters and offer mock interviews and assessment centres to give you practice and insight into employer selection techniques. We offer a range of appointment types whether you require information, practical help or guidance on your career ideas.
Jobs & Volunteering
If you're looking for a job while studying we advertise over 1000 vacancies a year to UEA students. These include part-time work on campus, in and around Norwich, graduate vacancies or volunteering.
We make all these opportunities available through our Employability service.

Enterprise
A key component of our approach to supporting students focuses on helping them to become more 'enterprising'. This means developing a set of skills and capabilities that will give you a competitive advantage in a rapidly changing global jobs market.
To help you develop your enterprising skills our teams host talks, challenges and competitions throughout the year. It doesn't matter what degree you are studying or your level of experience - we have something to suit everyone.
Internships and Mentoring
A variety of Internship and Mentoring opportunities are available to help you navigate towards a career path.
We run a very successful Graduate Internship Programme, but we are not stopping there. We are developing paid undergraduate internship opportunities on and off campus. We are also increasing our support for students seeking to develop internship opportunities for themselves. Keep an eye on our internships website for more information.
Our UEA Mentoring Programme gives second year students the opportunity to receive advice and guidance from professionals working in a variety of sectors. This can be very effective in developing confidence, for gaining insight into particular job areas and navigating those first steps towards graduate employment.
Researchers
Whether you are a postgraduate research student or a member of our research staff, you can benefit from our services, which include career and professional development workshops and a team of specialist advisers.
In collaboration with colleagues in Schools and Faculties, we can help you to develop your career within academia or to explore wider options beyond university teaching and research.
We also provide specific enterprise activities for research students, to help you become more 'enterprising' by developing a set of skills and capabilities that will give you a competitive edge. Academic Schools
Careers & Employability collaborates with all UEA Schools in developing student employability and enterprise. Our staff deliver workshops and events as well as liaising closely with lead staff in schools and faculties.
We advise colleagues on a range of issues related to careers and employability including embedding activity within the curriculum, work-based learning and contact with employer sectors.
We also manage a central programme of internships for undergraduates and graduates as well as mentoring from employers and enterprise activities. We work closely with colleagues in Research and Enterprise Services (REN) and Alumni to support Schools in developing programmes of work experience and employer involvement.

Alumni
At UEA we believe in creating long term relationships with our alumni, from helping you to find employment to providing you with opportunities to connect with current students and develop your skills. We want you to feel that you are always part of the university.
If you're a graduate looking for a job you can register with our Graduate Vacancy Service accessible from the UEA alumni portal. If you're a recent graduate seeking initial experience you can benefit from our Graduate Internship Programme, which can help you secure a paid internship across a range of industries. This can help you to develop valuable skills and gain workplace experience that will greatly enhance your CV.
We are always interested in hearing from alumni who would like to connect with current students at UEA whether it's to give a talk to your old school, as a speaker on our lecture series or a potential employer please get in touch and tell us how you'd like to work with us.
We are also looking for alumni interested in mentoring a UEA student in finding and navigating their way to graduate employment.The time commitment ranges from as little as 30 minutes by telephone, providing one-off mentoring advice, to six hours over six months, providing a longer mentoring relationship. If you're interested in helping a student through mentoring we would love to hear from you.

Employers
As an employer looking to work with the University, we can offer you a wide range of services from helping you to employ our graduates and students, support an event, challenge or competition or deliver a talk directly to students.
For instance, careers fairs are a great chance to meet students and get them excited about your business. If you would like to promote your company with a stand at one of our careers fairs please contact: careers.events@uea.ac.uk
If you're interested in employing a UEA graduate we offer a fast, free service that can help you with the whole recruitment process, from publicising your company details and job advertisement to providing an interview schedule for you. We can also help you to quickly fill part-time and casual vacancies, with access to 15,000 students in possession of a wide range of skills, knowledge and work experience. Many are currently looking for part-time work.
Perhaps you'd prefer to employ an intern? This is a proven way for businesses and third sector organisations to inject fresh talent into the work place. To that end we run the Graduate Internship Programme, which offers organisations like yours the opportunity to work with a recent graduate for up to 12 weeks, either part-time or full-time.
Finally we at UEA are always looking to develop our links with industry in our curriculum, so perhaps your company feels it could offer specialist knowledge or advice to students on an existing programme or possibly work with us to develop a totally new course. We are always looking for partners and are keen to hear from you.
