Join us at our transition event for new undergraduate students!

In September we are running events to support new undergraduate students, Headstart (an on-campus event) and Skills for Success (an online webinar series). We have invited firm offer holders who meet the eligibility criteria for these events by email, and we will confirm your place at our events if you are successful in meeting your offer to study at UEA.

Headstart

This event takes places on UEA campus. This day aims to welcome you to UEA, by allowing you to experience campus, meet other new students and receive some practical advice from students and staff within your faculty – all to help give you a head-start before you begin.

Worried about travel costs?

We have a travel fund that can be used to cover the costs associated with traveling to this event. Apply online or ask the team for more information: travel.fund@uea.ac.uk

Here’s what we’ll cover:

  • Budgeting at UEA – our student life team will guide you through how you can create a budget and the important things to consider. This talk will also detail useful resources you can use in the budgeting process. Finally, you’ll hear all about the cost-of-living support on campus, as we know this is a key concern for students.

  • Welcome to UEA Library – get a tour of the UEA library. See the amazing facilities, view our campus and meet the friendly team of library staff that are there to support you.

  • Support services information fair – meet representatives from the variety of support services we have at UEA and get your questions answered. This is your chance to find out about how you can make the most of your time at university and what it has to offer.

You will also take part in faculty specific sessions, depending on which faculty you are studying in. Faculty sessions are as follows:

  • How to thrive in a lecture – this session will detail how you can prepare for a lecture and take notes effectively.

  • Taster Anatomy lecture & discussion – this is a chance to practice what you’ve learnt, through attending a lecture and reflecting on how you found the experience as a group.

  • Ask the ambassadors – top tips from current students on the skills needed to succeed at UEA.

  • Independent learning – a discussion of the skills needed to be a successful independent learner.

  • A tour of your subject area – student ambassadors will show you around areas of campus & facilities that are relevant to your chosen subject.

  • How to make the best start at university education – this session will detail the people and resources available to you during your time at UEA and discuss how to get the most out of lectures.

  • A drugs journey through the body – this taster lecture will allow you to experience what a lecture is and put the skills you have learnt into practice.

  • Learning modes at University – This session will examine seminars, lectures, and independent learning and detail how students will learn and conduct research whilst at UEA.

  • Improving your research and learning skills – This session will consider the skills involved in navigating classroom experiences.

  • Becoming a successful SSF student – This session will detail how you can thrive at UEA and introduce you to some key members of staff.
