Our MMB Doctoral Training Partnership programme leverages the capacity and research strengths available within the Norwich Research Park.
Students will be assigned to one of three Graduate Schools - Norwich Bioscience Institutes, Medicine and Health Sciences, or Science - according to the affiliation of their supervisor.
Ensuring that activities are predominantly focused on this single site facilitates regular face-to-face interactions and peer support.
An allocation of studentships will be iCASE projects where a non-academic partner has joined the project offering an opportunity to engage with business including a placement at the partner.
The distinctive training we offer in microbial bioinformatics aims to ensure that our students feel comfortable running sophisticated computer analyses alongside laboratory work. Students will enhance their skills base through problem-based learning in microbial bioinformatics, training events run by partners, monthly master classes and annual retreats together with training in transferable skills. All students will undertake a Professional Placement lasting up to 12 weeks (or for iCASE students, a placement with the non-academic partner totalling 3-18 months)
Training programmes in the Graduate Schools provide a solid foundation of transferable skills and nurture the student's knowledge and abilities to support career progression. All students are encouraged to seek careers advice and support (before, during and after their PhD programme) from their Graduate School and UEA Career Central (with support from dedicated career advisers for PhD students) to enable them to manage their careers while developing the confidence and skills to make an impact in a wide range of sectors. Students will also benefit from have access to a wide range of support through Student Services.
