Laura is an early childhood specialist with research interests in children’s carnivalesque humour (carnivality) in the digital world, Bakhtinian dialogism, and the anthropology of childhood.

Sarah Brownsword

Sarah is a Lecturer on the Primary PGCE. She teaches the English and Primary Languages components of the course and is the course co-director. Sarah is interested in race & diversity in education, particularly in the context of children's literature and reading; and improving teachers' racial literacy. Sarah will help with analysis in Work Package 3.

Dr Elizabeth Scholefield

Elizabeth is a Lecturer in Education at UEA. Her research focuses on factors that can influence interpersonal processes in pedagogical relationships. Elizabeth is keen to continue developing research which explores the experiences of individuals in various pedagogical environments. Elizabeth is a pragmatic researcher, adopting both qualitative and quantitative approaches to investigate research problems. Elizabeth will co-lead Work Package 2.

Dr Kate Stewart

Kate is an Associate Professor in Sociology, with extensive expertise with multiple qualitative methodologies including focus group and interview techniques with research populations of varied ages and backgrounds, including interviews and focus groups with young children and parent. Her work has also included the analysis of film, television, advertising, video games and print outputs aimed at children and of how messages about products aimed at children are interpreted and applied by parents. Kate will contribute to Work Packages 3 & 4.

Dr Shannon Philip

Shannon is a Sociologist and Ethnographer, specialising in the sociologies of youth, race, gender, sexualities and urbanisation. Before joining UEA as a Lecturer, Shannon was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the Department of Sociology, University of Cambridge. He completed his Masters and PhD at the University of Oxford. Shannon will aid as a researcher and provide assistance with analysis in Work Packages 2 & 3.

Dr Victoria Cann

Victoria is an Associate Professor and Researcher of Gender and Youth at the University of East Anglia. She has published on the topics of girlhood and boyhood and is author of the youth studies book Girls Like This: Boys Like That (2018). Victoria was Co-Founder of the Community Group Day of the Girl Norwich and holds publications both inside and outside of academia. Victoria will contribute to Work Package 2 and 3, primarily.

Professor Jennifer Rowsell

Jennifer is a Professor of Digital Literacy at University of Sheffield. She is an interdisciplinary researcher who explores issues of digital literacy across a range of ages from young children and their parents to older adults. For over a decade, Jennifer has focused on digital literacy practices. She has published numerous books and papers exploring digital literacy and is Co-Convenor of the UKLA Everyday Literacies SIG and Lead Editor of Reading Research Quarterly. Jennifer will serve as a ‘critical friend’ throughout the project, working 30 days across the 2 years to provide feedback on the data collection, data analysis, and research themes.

Expert Panel:

Dr Richard Graham

Richard is a Consultant Child Psychiatrist with vast expertise in the clinical implications of digital technologies. He also sits on Ofcom’s Making Sense of Media Advisory Panel and will contribute across the project from a clinical and policy perspective as part of the interdisciplinary expert panel.

Lizzie Weatherburn

Lizzie is an extremely experienced Early Years Practitioner and Primary PGCE student. She will contribute across the project as part of the interdisciplinary expert panel.

Rebecca Lloyd

Rebecca is an Early Years Advisor at Norfolk County Council with expertise in Special Educational Needs. She will contribute across the project as part of the interdisciplinary expert panel.
