Advanced Italian-English Literary Translation Workshop
The Advanced Translation Workshop in November 2025 will be for Italian-English literary translators. It will run online across 3 days online, 3rd-5th November 2025, (10am-5pm or 6pm each day, GMT). This workshop, run in partnership with National Centre for Writing, is generously supported by the Italian Cultural Institute and Arts Council England. All 12 translators that are offered a place on the workshop will receive a partial bursary to take part.
Since 2021, BCLT has been running 3-day online advanced translation workshops for more experienced literary translators. These workshops bring together translators from around the world working with the same language combinations and offer them the chance to workshop alongside an experienced literary translator, as well as a professional editor. Since 2021 we have run advanced translation workshops for Catalan-English (Institut Ramon Llull), German-English (Goethe Institut and New Books in German), Scandinavian literary translators (Danish Arts Foundation, NORLA and the Swedish Arts Council) and literature from Taiwan (National Museum of Taiwan Literature).
Previous participants on the advanced translation workshops have applied for the following reasons:
“I wanted to gain more experience and confidence in my own translation practice.”
“I applied because, due to various circumstances, I have struggled to make the step from one published book to regular translation work. I relished the chance of collaborative work and the opportunity to hone my skills.”
“Because I was losing confidence after a few ignored pitches.”
“To refine existing translation skills, establish new professional connections and contribute to others through constructive feedback.”
Applications are now OPEN and close on Monday 25th August 2025. Find out more about eligibility and how to apply below.
