University of East Anglia’s (UEA) next Court is expected to take place on the evening of Thursday 10 October 2024, in The Enterprise Centre.
Invitations will be issued by the University to a range of individuals and partner organisations during the summer.
Last year's Court took place on Wednesday 4 October 2023. The evening showcased the formal launch of UEA’s Civic Charter.
Celebrating UEA’s 60th anniversary, the Civic Charter draws on a long tradition of civic work. It invites businesses, organisations and individuals from all sectors to engage with UEA and create opportunities for new projects and collaborations.
Attendees also heard from UEA Chair of Council Dr Sally Howes OBE, treasurer Simon George, and Professor David Maguire, Vice-Chancellor and President.
Work in each of UEA’s interdisciplinary research themes was highlighted by:
ClimateUEA: ‘Soil Salvation: The Critical Decade for Soil Carbon’ - Jess Chapman, Leverhulme Doctoral Scholar, School of Environmental Sciences
CreativeUEA: ‘Libraries for living, and for living better’ - Professor John Gordon, Academic Chair, CreativeUEA
HealthUEA: ‘Epidemiological research during a public health emergency of international concern’ - Professor Paul Hunter, Norwich Medical School
The event concluded with a beautiful poem about Norwich and Norfolk, written and performed by Cai Draper, an alumnus of UEA’s creative writing programme.
