The Equality, Diversity and Inclusions office’s Success@UEA initiative aims to showcase the success of staff members at UEA and encompass a wide range of backgrounds and diversity. Those involved in this project have kindly shared the steps they took to achieve success, what or who has inspired them, and the challenges along the way – especially when those challenges relate to identity. We would like to thank those who gave their time and words to this project, in order to inspire those who want to progress in their roles and may relate to their experience.

Ms Claire Cuminatto
Claire started her career in France, as a qualified Modern Foreign Language teacher, and taught in schools in the region of Lyon. Having taught English before teaching French enhanced her sensitivity of how the two languages cut out reality differently, and where similarities and differences can hinder or facilitate acquisition in the case the English learners. She started teaching at UEA in 2011, first as an Associate Tutor, then as a permanent lecturer from 2012. The modules she teaches focus on French Language Acquisition, from subsidiary to advanced level. Claire is the Associate Dean for Employability. She collaborates with UEA's Career Centre and colleagues within PPL to develop employability related events and initiatives and monitor/ improve student engagement with the career development agenda. This role involves, amongst other tasks, organising study and employability visits in the UK and abroad (see PPL’s International Study Programme), facilitating internships, and working on embedding career development within the School’s curriculum. Claire initiated and runs PPL's Professional Practice scheme, whose aim is to build bridges between academic and professional worlds, the core idea of the scheme being that students in a selection of PPL modules produce work which is sent to external organisations. -
