Our research into supportive, palliative and end of life care seeks to improve care and support for both patients and their informal carers – those family members or friends who provide unpaid support.

Our work focuses on the needs of those living with progressive life-limiting conditions, often with multiple co-morbidities and/or frailty. It addresses regional and national inequalities in supportive, palliative and end of life care; we also work internationally.

A key feature of our projects is their reach: extending beyond identifying problems in the sector, to producing evidence-based solutions, co-developed with stakeholders.

We are one of two universities leading on the East of England NIHR Applied Research Collaboration (ARC)’s Palliative and End of Life Care theme, and a key player in ARC’s national Palliative and End of Life Care theme.

We contribute to teaching in the topic area at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and welcome enquiries from prospective PhD students.
