UEA Live

UEA Live is a literary festival based at the University of East Anglia, the campus where some of the greatest writers of today have worked and studied. UEA prides itself on being where literature lives, proven true by their illustrious roster of alumni.

The festival was founded in 1991, and in the decades since, it has made a significant contribution to Norwich’s cultural life, attracting over 500 world-class writers and thinkers, and droves of book lovers each year.

We’re committed to inspiring and empowering audiences, drawing on the University of East Anglia’s expertise in storytelling across all our subjects. We’re proud of our broad, dynamic, inclusive programmes, our unique heritage, and our curious, charismatic community that brings the festival to life.

Noirwich Crime Writing Festival

The Noirwich Crime Writing Festival is the region’s largest annual celebration of crime writing and one of the fastest-growing literary festivals in the UK.

Many incredible crime writers have attended the festival in recent years, including Val McDermid, Attica Locke, Yrsa Sigurdardottir, Louise Doughty, James Runcie, Lee Child, Ian Rankin, Peter James, Anthony Horowitz, Nicci French, Paula Hawkins and Benjamin Black.

Noirwich is about the reading and the writing of crime fiction. We explore how the genre works and where it is going, thanks to our unique connection with the University of East Anglia’s creative writing department.

Arts and Humanities Research Engagement

UEA's Arts and Humanities Research Engagement Series brings the latest research and new ideas to audiences inside and outside the university on matters of great public interest.

Running annually in the spring, we invite the essential expert voices, from UEA and beyond, to tell you what you really need to know about the critical issues facing us all.

You can find more information, as well as watching back previous events, on our Arts and Humanities Research Series page.

Philosophy Public Lecture Series

UEA’s Philosophy Public Lecture Series is an annual series of talks and panels, free and open to all.

We bring together some of the world’s leading academics (including home-grown ones!) to present and discuss their work in a publicly accessible way around a different theme every year. This series seeks to make the work of philosophers at the University and beyond more widely understood and engaged with by the general public.

Prominent past UEA public lecturers have included Hilary Putnam, Onora O’Neill, Mary Midgeley, Nassim Taleb, Amitav Ghosh, Richard Horton, Chris Hedges, Jonathon Porritt, David Willetts, Andy Haldane, and Quentin Skinner.
