The UEA American Scholarship will support an American student during their PhD in the Faculty of Arts and Humanities or the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of East Anglia. It is a condition of the scholarship that the recipient agrees to assist at the American Library. The scholarship is tenable for three years from 1 October 2020.
The scholarship offers invaluable work experience because scholars support the work of the 2nd Air Division Memorial Trust by assisting staff in the Memorial Library (based in the Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library, The Forum, Norwich, and re-named American Library in March 2020) for approximately 8 hours per week. You can read more about the Library here.
The scholar’s role is to give users and potential users of the American Library an insight into American life and culture and to assist staff in the library in ensuring that the unique American atmosphere of the library is maintained. This will include some outreach activities.
