Latin American Student Ambassador
My name is Claudia Linan and I am currently in my PhD’s thesis writing -up year. I am doing a PhD International Development and I have been at UEA for four years now. Now that I think about it, that´s a lot! But it shows that I have been really happy here. I first started with my MA International Social Development at UEA and decided to stay because of the great environment and reputation this university and its staff have to offer.
As part of my PhD programme I have been encouraged to present research posters and speak at conferences and publish at renowned academic journals. This has helped me disseminate my research and learn and share with like-minded people which has enriched my research project further. Since I was in my Masters’ and preparing my research proposal to apply for a PhD, I always found support and openness from my teachers, which I find to be one of the outstanding characteristics from professors at UEA.
During my Masters’ year I accommodations at UEA and I can’t recommend it enough. I was living at Suffolk Terrace and I loved having a window overlooking UEA’s lake. I lived with other students from all over the world. I had flatmates from Japan, Russia, USA, the UK, Romania, China, and Azerbaijan. One of the parts I loved the most about it was the potlucks we organised; I got to try lovely and exotic dishes. I was lucky because I am still in contact with some of them. I never felt lonely, and whenever I wanted to be in complete silence, the library was just 2 minutes away and it is open 24/7.
All in all, UEA has made my experience as an international student outstanding and I can´t recommend it enough! If you have any questions about studying at the University of East Anglia, please do not hesitate to contact me either via the Latin American Students Facebook page or you can email me at Latinamerican.email@example.com
