My UEA Story: Walking with the Wounded

We worked with the CareerCentral Internship Programme to appoint History student Sarah Lewis for three-months. Sarah was asked to stay on for a further two-months before accepting our offer of a full-time position.

We hired an intern to support our growing fundraising and events work and to provide the right environment for a potential future employee to find out more about us while we get to learn from their ideas and enthusiasm to help.

Sarah was a brilliant additional resource in the fundraising team, working on communications, marketing and stewarding, in particular to support our Cumbrian Challenge and Walking Home for Christmas campaigns. Once Sarah was taken on full-time, she also managed our London Marathon and Great North Run teams.

An internship is a great way of bringing in new ideas and an extra set of confident hands to test a new growth area or expand a current project. There’s potential to keep the intern on if they excel, which we have done with our last three students hired through the UEA Internship Programme.
