Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF)
The Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) is a £1.5 billion fund available from 2016-2021, resourced through the UK Government’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) commitment.
GCRF funding supports cutting-edge research that addresses the global challenges faced by low- and middle-income countries. All projects funded through GCRF must take an interdisciplinary approach and collaborate with a wide range of partners, including overseas researchers, governments and Non-Governmental Organisations. The Fund addresses a wide range of the challenges highlighted in the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Researchers from UEA are working across many GCRF projects in a wide range of developing contexts and countries. We have selected two UEA GCRF case studies to show what can be achieved when academics, Non-Governmental Organisations, local communities, companies and policymakers worldwide come together to work towards the SDGs.
