The Victor Thomas Penfold Scholarship

The Victor Thomas Penfold Scholarship will be awarded this September to an undergraduate student studying a three-year programme in the School of Politics, Philosophy, Language & Communication Studies. Graham Penfold has funded the Scholarship, which memorialises his father and will contribute £10,000 to the recipient’s course fees split evenly over three years, since September 2014.

Graham came to UEA in the late 1970s as a mature student to study in the School of Economic and Social Studies, going on to work in dental business management for twenty years. The Scholarship will support a student in a similar situation to the one Graham himself was in when he began studying at UEA.

To be eligible to apply for the Scholarship, applicants must ordinarily live in England and must come from a household where the total household income is less than £30,000.

For more information on the Scholarship and to find out how to apply, email e.duncan@uea.ac.uk.

Application deadline is 10 April 2015.

The Wilkinson Scholarship

Prospective undergraduates hoping to study for a BA (Hons) in English Literature and Philosophy the School of Politics, Philosophy, Language and Communication Studies from this September might be eligible to apply for the Wilkinson Scholarship. The Scholarship, which will contribute to part of the recipient’s course fees for three years, has been generously funded by UEA Alumni James and Helen Wilkinson since 2010.

The Wilkinson's studied here at UEA in the early 1990s; James graduated with a BA (Hons) in Philosophy, while Helen received a BA (Hons) in English Literature. They set up the Scholarship to mark their years at UEA – some of the most memorable of their lives. “We relished the opportunity to study subjects that we loved and that challenged us.” They remarked at the time of setting up the Scholarship. “We also made some lifelong friends, as well as meeting each other on our first day, so without UEA our lives would be poorer in so many ways.” Supporting a student for three years while they study subjects which they have both enjoyed, they also hope to fund a student who would otherwise struggle to come to university for financial reasons.

Applicants must be eligible to pay fees at the Home or EU rate and come from a household where the total household income is less than £25,000.
