The Consultation Skills course has been developed and is delivered by a core team of 5 part-time lecturers. We are also extremely fortunate to be able to draw on the skills and expertise of tutors from a variety of different backgrounds including primary and secondary care clinicians and allied health professionals to deliver our small group teaching sessions

The lecturers in the consultation skills team are:

Sandra Winterburn, RGN, RMN, MSc Health Sciences, PGCert, Senior Fellow

Senior lecturer / Academic Lead for Consultation skills

  • Chair for the Teaching Committee - International Association of Communication in Healthcare (EACH)
  • Co-ordinator East of England Advanced Communication Skills Training Network and a member of the teaching committee of the European
  • Experience in the curriculum design and teaching of consultation skills to a wide range of professional groups at both under and post-graduate level

Key Interests

  • Communication in end of life care & breaking bad news
  • Patient partnership and shared decision making

Dr Charlotte Salter, MSc Gerontology, PhD, PGCertHEP

Senior Lecturer in Health & Communication

  • Background in gerontological research relating to health and social care issues, particular chronic illness and the patient/carer

Key Interests:

  • Communication in health care interactions including advice and information giving
  • Health Literacy
  • Adherence in medicine taking

Dr Helen Adcock, MBChB, FFPH, PGCertHEP

Clinical Lecturer

  • Background in General practice, Family planning and a Consultant in Public Health Medicine in Norfolk since 2000.

Dr Katie Ellis, MBChB, PGCE(M), QTS, PGCertClinEd, FHEA

Consultation Skills Lecturer

  • Background in secondary care and teaching in secondary and further education

Key Interests

  • Long term conditions with a particular interest in Dementia and Diabetes
  • Communication around potentially sensitive issues such as smoking, obesity and alcohol consumption.
  • Enhancing the use of digital technologies in medical education

Dr Michelle Fromage, BSc (Hons), PhD, PG Cert HEP, FHEA

Consultation Skills Lecturer/ MBBS Assessment

  • Background in studying and teaching Psychology and PhD in Clinical Communication

Key Interests

  • Transfer of effective consultation skills from Undergraduate to Postgraduate medical training
  • Creation of remediation practices for Undergraduate students
  • Exploration of Assessment data in relation to the creation of reliable assessment practices
