Delivering world-leading research and educational standards in a vibrant and diverse environment

Established in 2005, we investigate the impact of dietary patterns, foods, fatty acids and key dietary non-nutrient bioactives on health and risk of major age-related chronic conditions, in particular cardio-metabolic health, brain health and dementia, musculoskeletal health, obesity, micronutrient deficiency conditions and menopausal well-being. A major focus is the nutrition-gut-health axis

Our research uses a combination of cell and animal models, prospective epidemiology (EPIC Norfolk and Potsdam, UK Biobank, EPAD) efficacy and effectiveness intervention trials, food bioactive absorption and metabolism studies, metabolomics, lipidomic and high throughput screening and associated machine learning approaches.

Our Aims

  • To conduct world-leading nutrition, hydration and eating behaviour research which spans from fundamental mechanistic studies to large pragmatic trials in healthy participants and ‘at risk’ groups.

  • To provide a high-quality and enjoyable education experience for undergraduate Medical, Physician Associate, Biological Sciences and Dietetics students, postgraduate and health care professionals, in optimised health and disease prevention.

  • Through our involvement Norwich Institute of  Health Ageing (NIHA) and collaborations in the NHS, local authority public health teams and the community, contribute to the translation of nutrition knowledge into improved patient care and population health.
