Accreditations
Our MSc Digital Marketing course is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), the leading professional body for marketers worldwide. This means that, upon successful completion of the course, you’ll be exempt from certain modules required for the CIM’s highly respected Diploma in Professional Marketing.
Study and Modules
Structure
In your first semester, you’ll gain a solid foundation in marketing and other key areas, such as business research methods and managing people and organisations. You’ll also study marketing theory and explore different marketing models. Additionally, you’ll gain experience in essential marketing methods, from print to digital, including emerging channels such as social media.
Unlike other Master’s courses, where the third semester is typically spent on independent study, our MSc in Digital Marketing gives you the option of taught modules, covering topics such as brand creation and management and shaping the future of brands. There is also the opportunity to work on a dissertation or an industry-sponsored project.
Across all your modules, your studies will be firmly grounded in real-world practice. You’ll develop critical thinking by analysing the strategic marketing plans of actual businesses, considering how you might approach things differently. Case studies will take a global perspective, giving you the chance to explore international companies such as Huawei Technologies, Sony, Haribo, and Spotify. This ensures you graduate ready to excel on an international scale—whether that means returning to your home country, working with businesses that serve global clients, or joining a multinational corporation.
Compulsory Modules
Optional A Modules
(Credits: 20)Optional B Modules
(Credits: 40)Whilst the University will make every effort to offer the modules listed, changes may sometimes be made arising from the annual monitoring, review and update of modules. Where this activity leads to significant (but not minor) changes to programmes and their constituent modules, the University will endeavour to consult with students and others. It is also possible that the University may not be able to offer a module for reasons outside of its control, such as the illness of a member of staff. In some cases optional modules can have limited places available and so you may be asked to make additional module choices in the event you do not gain a place on your first choice. Where this is the case, the University will inform students.
Teaching and Learning
You’ll benefit from teaching that is both research-driven and industry-focused, learning from lecturers, academics, and guest speakers who are actively engaged in cutting-edge research or bring hands-on business experience.
Learning is delivered through a blend of lectures, seminars, group work, presentations, case study analysis, and independent study. Teaching takes place both face-to-face and online, using a combination of synchronous and asynchronous activities. Lectures are highly interactive, incorporating question-and-answer sessions, group tasks, games, learning technologies, live polls, and video. Seminars provide opportunities for you to work on collaborative projects, developing your teamwork and communication skills. Examples may include creating a strategic marketing plan or applying stages of the marketing research process.
Throughout your studies, there is a strong emphasis not only on applying key marketing and management theories, but also on thinking critically about them in a contemporary context.
Assessment
Throughout the course, your knowledge will be assessed through a variety of methods, including coursework, group projects, and presentations. You’ll submit both formative and summative work, receiving constructive feedback to help you identify strengths and areas for improvement.
