The deadline for the next Start-up Visa application round is 9am, Monday 6 July.

Start-up Visa

The Start-up Visa is a new category of Visa for non-European, early stage but high potential entrepreneurs who are starting a business in the UK for the first time. It gives holders a 2-year period to develop their business and requires an endorsement from a participating institution, such as UEA. To secure a letter of endorsement, applicants will need to demonstrate a business idea that is innovative, viable, and scalable.

Please note that we can only accept applications from UEA students and graduates, and are unable to endorse non-UEA applicants.

What are the next steps?

To apply for a Start-up Visa endorsement from UEA you will need to complete an online application form outlining your business idea and explaining how it meets the key criteria of innovation, viability, and scalability. You will also need to provide copies of:

  • 20 page Business Plan
  • 2-5 page Executive Summary
  • 2 year financial forecast (including profit and loss, cash flow,  and sources of funding for the business and individual
  • CV and Personal Statement
  • Current passport and Visa
  • Bank statements showing £945 available in your bank account for no less than 90 days prior to the application date

Application Process

A review panel will initially assess your application based on your application form and executive summary only.

Applicants who demonstrate a strong enough plan at this stage will be invited to pitch for a Start-up Visa endorsement. The panel will use the time before the pitch date to read the full business plan and financial forecast submitted.

Applicants will then pitch their business idea, at which point the panel will decide whether to provide an endorsement, decline, or request further information.

We would encourage anyone interested in the Visa to begin preparing as early as possible, and graduates who engage with the Student Enterprise team prior to applications are significantly more likely to be successful. It is strongly recommended that you meet with the team to discuss your business idea before you apply. You can book an appointment by visiting EnterpriseCentral, emailing or calling 01603 592142
