Name: Samuel Willis
I develop bespoke software to collect data for charities, sporting organisations and businesses. Think of a typical paper form, but made digital. A tablet computer loaded with FormTap is handed over to a customer, who taps through a series of pre-set questions and answers. The data is stored instantly and securely: no need for paper, physical storage or further input time.
How did UEA Student Enterprise help you?
I was lucky enough to receive support from UEA Student Enterprise in the form of financial assistance and skills mentoring. They provided me with access to an UnLtd grant for social entrepreneurs which helped me purchase some of the equipment needed to start my business. Using the skills developed through the mentoring sessions, I have been able to grow my business further.
What worries did you have while setting up your business, and how did you overcome them?
I had no experience of starting a business prior to this project and I thought that would hold me back. I soon realised that the same qualities in my other interests, sport and law, apply to business: perseverance, dedication and having a go at something new.
