FACULTY Support for Research FACULTY Support for Research

The Faculty has a number of ‘seed-corn’ funding schemes in place to support staff develop their research and research skills, including a Small Awards Scheme, a Research Publications Fund, a Research Training Fund, and a scheme specifically designed to help advance the research of early career staff, Annual Adventures in Research.

The Faculty Research Committee makes funding decisions on all applications, and its members are ADR (chair), Deputy ADR, and School Research Directors. The Committee meets 5 times per academic year (October, December, January, March, May).

These support schemes operate every academic year, and spending on awards must be in the financial year (which ends 31/7) in which the award is made. This is non-negotiable, except for the ECR scheme, Annual Adventures in Research, where funding may be used in the following academic year.

Upcoming deadlines for support scheme applications to be submitted in 2018/19 are:

  • Wednesday 5th December 2018
  • Wednesday 30th January 2019
  • Thursday 21st March 2019
  • Wednesday 8th May 2019

Eary Career Researchers' Forum Eary Career Researchers' Forum

This forum provides a supportive and inclusive environment for colleagues in the early stages of their research career. It aims to address career-stage specific issues and share best practice. The forum meets several times per year over lunch to ‘workshop’ a specific issue in an informal and encouraging atmosphere, with topics chosen by its membership. It includes workshops and presentations by invited speakers (including early career researchers and external to UEA) on a relevant topic or issue, and the aim is for early career researchers at UEA to develop, through discussion with peers, their personal effectiveness and the skills to ensure the widest impact of their research.

Our ECR Forum in Semester 2 2018/19 aims to provide sessions that address the topics you identified as the most important ones for early career researchers.

The second session of the Forum was a workshop on 'AHRC Grants', 11am-1pm, 7th December 2018, JSC 2.02, and included strategies and tips when applying to the AHRC for research funding.
