Strategy & Policies

Our strategic vision

Our vision is to be a global leader in understanding how key environmental issues shape the future of our planet. We are committed to pioneering new ways of operating as a truly sustainable organisation and to finding the most impactful approaches to inform, educate, and inspire action—within our community and across society.

We recognise that with our knowledge and expertise comes a profound responsibility: to drive positive change. We are not just participants in this journey—we are catalysts for transformation. Through our actions, we will influence individuals, communities, and organisations, empowering them to create a more sustainable future.

Our impact will be visible and tangible—in the way we operate as an organisation, in how we equip our students with the skills and mindset to be sustainability leaders, and in how our research and partnerships drive meaningful, lasting change at regional, national, and global levels.

Our Environmental Sustainability Strategy will be available to read on the 8th July 2025.

Environmental Management System

The Estates and Facilities Directorate leads on the Environmental Management System (EMS) which is certified to BS EN ISO 14001: 2015 standard covering all of our physical estates and operations. The EMS was developed over a number of years using the EcoCampus approach gaining Platinum status. The Estates Leadership Team with support of the Sustainability Team coordinate the maintenance of the EMS and the delivery of activities that deliver continuous environmental improvements across the University.
