This privacy notice applies to staff employed at the University of East Anglia. It tells you what to expect when the University collects and uses your personal information.
The University processes information about website users for analytic purposes. The following sections describe in detail the usual ways we will use your information during your time at UEA. This notice should be read alongside our Cookie policy.
The University of East Anglia is a registered data controller and will collect and use information about staff in accordance with current UK data protection legislation. UEA is the data controller for any personal data captures via cookies and/or pixels.
Should you consent to the processing of Analytical cookies, we use Microsoft Clarity to capture how you use and interact with our website through behavioural metrics, heatmaps, and session replay to improve and market our products/services. Log files
In common with most web sites, this site automatically logs certain information about every request made of it. The University's website does not automatically capture or store personal data from visitors to the site, other than to log your IP address and session information. Session information includes the time and duration of your visit to the site, the files requested, and the browser used.
This information will only be accessed by authorised persons of the University of East Anglia or its agents. The information will be retained by the University and will only be used for the purpose of (a) managing the site system, (b) the identification of broken links, (c) bug tracking and (d) for statistical and audit purposes.
Relevant subsets of this data may be passed to University IT security teams as part of investigations of computer misuse involving this site or other computing equipment in the University. Data may be passed to the administrators of other computer systems to enable investigation of problems accessing this site or of system misconfiguration. Data may incidentally be included in information passed to contractors and computer maintenance organisations working on behalf of the University, in which case apprpropriate data processor agreements shall be in place.
Legal basis for processing personal data
The lawful basis we rely on to process your personal data is either Article 6(1)(a) of the UK GDPR, for example when we require your consent for the optional cookies we use, or Article 6(1)(f) which allows us to process personal data when it’s necessary for our legitimate interests. For example in order to maintain the integrity of our IT systems and the continuity of our business.
Where we collect data via web forms or similar we will let you know the lawful basis we are relying on for the collection and use of data in each case, referring to our other privacy notices (e.g. for students or staff) as appropriate.
