Philosophy at UEA addresses the core concerns of human existence today. We debate the ideas and thoughts that shape and change the world we live in.
Our students and academics ask essential questions about who we are and the ways we live, applying the understanding that we gain to the pressing concerns that face us all.
We are among the 20 best places to study philosophy in the UK, according to the 2019 Guardian University League Table. Our curriculum is designed and delivered by experienced, active academics. We have expertise in a diverse range of topics and approaches, from non-western philosophies and philosophy of religion, to environmental ethics and existential philosophy. Our students graduate with the ability to analyse complex issues and make strong arguments by developing their imaginations and reasoning capacities together.
We offer an exciting programme of student-led extra-curricular activities, including movie nights and public lectures, evening debates on research in pubs and bars, and even an annual department weekend away.
