Why did you choose to study Mathematics?

I chose to study Mathematics for the simple reason it was my most enjoyable subject at school. I did not know what career I wanted so decided to spend my time at university doing something I am good at whilst also being able to keep my options open. Having a degree in mathematics gave me the opportunity to explore different career avenues after graduation rather than restricting me to a certain industry. I have also found that having a degree which is typically different to my colleagues has helped me to provide a new perspective and logic within the team.

What did you enjoy most about your degree?

I enjoyed the logical approach and problem-solving skills that Mathematics requires. Being introduced to the subject by studying a split of applied and pure modules in our first year was beneficial to getting a well-rounded understanding of the subject. When in our second and third year we were given more choice over the modules we wanted to study which allowed me to direct my degree towards more applied mathematics. This gave me the opportunity to enjoy the aspects of mathematics that appeal to me the most.

What did you enjoy most about your time at UEA?

I absolutely loved living in the ziggurats. Here I got to know people from outside of my course and build friendships that are just as important to me today! Also, I wanted to study at a university which was campus based with great sports facilities. UEA was able to offer this within such a lovely green environment.
