The MoveX Lab was established over 17 years ago, primarily focusing on stroke rehabilitation research.
Now under new management, the MoveX Lab has a refreshed mission: to provide state-of-the-art physiology and movement analysis within our core areas of focus which are research, education, clinical applications, and commercial collaborations. We aim to establish ourselves as the leading centre for these services in the region.
Community Clinic Vision
In addition to the lab, we plan to establish a Community Clinic within the MoveX Lab. This clinic will act as a gateway for individuals with neurological conditions, offering assessments, treatment, and referrals to services such as the UEA Sportspark or Able2B, an accessible gym facility in Norwich.
The clinic and the lab will be tightly interconnected, using the lab’s cutting-edge equipment and expertise to deliver comprehensive assessments of movement, strength, balance, symmetry, fitness, and function. If successful, we anticipate relocating the clinic to its own dedicated space.
Unique Selling Points
Comprehensive Assessments: Our unique combination of advanced equipment enables detailed, multi-dimensional insights into human movement and performance.
Expert Team: The lab is staffed by a multidisciplinary team, including HCPC-registered physiotherapists, sports scientists, and medical physiologists.
Innovation in Healthcare: The Community Clinic will provide access to specialist assessments and treatment, with the potential to trial cutting-edge health technologies.
Collaboration Opportunities
We offer a range of flexible partnership options for commercial and academic collaborators, including:
Conducting research projects as a partner.
Facilitating access to patient groups (via the Community Clinic) for trials of CE/CAUK-marked devices.
Providing clinical measurement data for research or development purposes.
Acting as a demonstration or prescribing centre for innovative technologies (via the Community Clinic).
In return we are looking for opportunities including:
Income generation
Academic publications
Access to medical devices for people attending our community clinic to access, try out and possibly purchase.
This activity will also enable us to provide comprehensive student placements to HSC students and possibly MED intercalating students in the future.

Equipment Overview and Assessment Capabilities
The MoveX Lab is equipped with a comprehensive range of advanced tools:
Key Equipment
Vicon 3D Motion Capture Cameras: Capture real-time movement data, offering joint kinematics and kinetics data for gait analysis, posture assessment, and sports performance evaluations. Portable options are available for use outside the lab.
Force Plates: Measure ground reaction forces (GRF) to assess balance, gait, and force distribution. Both integrated and portable systems are available.
Electromyography (EMG): Record muscle activation patterns, useful for evaluating neuromuscular function and rehabilitation progress.
Isokinetic Dynamometer: Assess muscle torque, strength, fatigue, and imbalances, aiding targeted rehabilitation and performance improvement.
Metabolic Carts: Enable cardiovascular and metabolic assessments, including VO2 max testing, lactate threshold testing, resting metabolic rate, and energy expenditure during exercise.
Body Composition Ultrasound Scanner: Measure subcutaneous fat thickness and muscle changes, aiding recovery tracking and symmetry analysis.
Assessment Capabilities
We provide multi-dimensional evaluations, integrating motion capture, force analysis, muscle function, and metabolic performance to offer:
Tailored rehabilitation or performance programmes.
Comprehensive biomechanical, muscular, and metabolic assessments.
Ergonomic evaluations and injury risk analyses.
