About Us
Tribhuvan University (TU), established in 1959, is a government-aided public university in Nepal. There are five institutes and four general faculties under which 40 central departments, 64 constituent campuses and 1053 affiliated public and private colleges are running in different academic and research programmes. TU offers Bachelor, Master, M.Phil., PhD programs both in technical and general disciplines. Four research centres including Research Centre for Educational Innovation and Development (CERID) have their glorious history for their contribution in research and knowledge generation for policy making and implementation in the nation. TU runs Master and Bachelor Degree programs through semester system. TU, as the largest and leading university of the nation, accommodates around 80 percent of the total higher education students in Nepal. TU has more than 8,000 teaching faculties, and 7500 non-teaching staff for regulating all academic, research and administrative activities. TU aims to develop competitive human resource for the national development and for the global competition through quality education and research.
CERID under Tribhuvan University has a long-established profile in nonformal and literacy research. Prof. Dr. Rajendra Kunwar, the Executive Director, is leading the UEA UNESCO Chair partnership. Dr. Kamal Raj Devkota, Assistant Professor of TU, with his strong research expertise in language education and literacy particularly focusing on Dalits, disadvantaged and marginalized communities, coordinates the UEA UNESCO Chair partnership in Nepal.

Dr. Rajendra Kunwar
Dr. Rajendra Kunwar specializes in Mathematics Education. He completed his PhD from Tribhuvan University. He has been working as an Associate Professor at TU for the last three decades, and also has successfully completed the tenure of the campus chief of Mahendra Ratna Multiple Campus, Ilam, a constituent campus of TU. Dr. Kunwar has led several small and large-scale researches on policies, pedagogies and issues in education in general and Mathematics education in particular. He has published a number of papers in high-ranked journals.

Dr. Sushan Acharya
Professor Sushan Acharya, Co-Chair, UEA UNESCO Chair, holds a Doctorate in Education (EdD) in International and Non-Formal Education (1999) and Masters in International and Non-Formal Education (1994) from Center for International Education (CIE), University of Massachusetts (UMass), Amherst, USA; and Masters in English Literature (1984) Tribhuvan University (TU), Kathmandu. She is a Professor in the Department of Foundation of Education and Department of Education Planning and Management of the Central Department of Education, Tribhuvan University. Prof. Acharya has also worked as the member of the High Level National Education Commission 2018 and 2019. In addition, she has undertaken a number of research, evaluation, reviews and consultancy projects in the field of education (both formal and non-formal) particularly focusing on gender and social inclusion. She has published a number of articles on literacy, indigenous practices, gender and social inclusion in the context of Nepal.

Dr. Kamal Raj Devkota
Dr Kamal Raj Devkota specializes in language education and literacy in Nepal. He has undertaken a number of research works and policy reviews in the field of education. He has led the verification research of the Disbursement Linked Indicators (DLIs) under School Education Sector Plan (SESP) for Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST) in Nepal. As well, he has been leading a number of research works in higher education policy, language education and indigenous practices. Dr. Devkota has also been teaching and supervising M.Ed., M.Phil. and PhD students under Faculty of Education, TU. He is the coordinator of the UEA UNESCO Chair for CERID, TU.

Mr. Dipak Khanal
Mr Dipak Khanal specializes in Educational Planning and Management. He has been working as an Assistant Professor at TU for the last fifteen years. He is interested in researching on different educational issues including leadership and professional development of the teachers both at school and tertiary levels. As a PhD scholar in education, he is engaged in different research studies run at CERID, TU.

Mr. Om Chandra Thasineku
Mr Om Chandra Thasineku specializes in Population Studies (M.A and M.Phil.). He is working as an Assistant Professor of TU for about a decade. He received a fellowship for his M.Phil. Degree from University Grants Commission (UGC), Nepal. His expertise goes to data management and analysis using SPSS and other Statistical tools. As a PhD Scholar in Population Studies, he is engaged in different research studies at CERID, TU.

Dr. Sudha Ghimire
Sudha Ghimire is an Assistant Professor of Health Education at Tribhuvan University (TU) in Kathmandu, Nepal. She holds PhD from TU, and has over 17 years of experience as a registered nurse in various hospitals and communities. In 2024, Sudha was selected as an Echidna Global Scholar by the Brookings Institution, a fellowship that supports female educators from developing countries. Her research interests focus on gender, sexual and reproductive health, rights, and social justice. She employs transformative and participatory approaches to school-based health education, aiming to enhance the agency and critical awareness of adolescent girls regarding reproductive health and comprehensive sexuality education. Sudha has contributed to various publications and presented her research at international conferences, emphasizing adolescent reproductive health and participatory action research methods.
