Many of our students’ secure internships or placement years at top organisations, such as Deloitte, EY, Government Economic Services, HSBC, Office for National Statistics and PwC, amongst others.

We have an established Placement Year (sometimes referred to as “Year in Industry”), providing opportunities for students to spend 12 months working full-time. Placements take place between the penultimate and the final year of study. Our students have gained places at organisations in both the public and private sector in a range of industries, recent examples include Accenture, Crown Commercial Service, Dyson, EDF, L'Oreal, NatWest, NHS, Sainsbury's, and Unilever.

As well as providing valuable work experience, internships and placements offer students both a better understanding of the recruitment process and the how to apply skills learnt on their course. Analytical skills provided in many of our modules makes our Economics students a unique asset for companies and organisations.

Throughout spring and summer, the economics department also offers several paid internships to work alongside academics on their research projects providing a unique opportunity to develop and learn more about the process of and contributing to academic research.

We developed an ECO mentoring scheme, which is an arrangement one-to-one mentoring between an ECO alumnus (mentor) and a student (mentee). ECO provides the matching between mentors and mentees, who periodically catch-up to discuss about job market requirements, skills, training, but most importantly to enhance the focus on job market choices.
