The University of Newcastle is situated in Callaghan, a suburb of Newcastle in New South Wales. With nearly 36,000 students there are plenty of extra-curricular activities across their five Australian campuses. The University also runs events specifically for international students and offers opportunities to volunteer. There are over 150 clubs and societies from scuba diving to drama, as well as the option to start your own society.
Established in 1965, the Times Higher Education has placed the University of Newcastle as first in ranking for universities under 50 years old.
Newcastle holds strong ties to many sporting teams including rugby, basketball and water sports. The city also hosts a range of festivals during the year, from Jazz to Art. Newcastle is also only 100 miles away from Sydney, and there is a regular rail service.
