Careers and Employability
Philosophy requires an acute and critical mind, which is something that is highly regarded by employers. Because of the rigour and logical precision involved, a degree in philosophy delivers powerful intellectual strengths, comparable with the outcomes of a science degree, but combined with the sensitivity and well-developed communication skills typical of an arts degree.
Philosophy graduates are highly-employable and students have gone on to work in broadcasting, civil service, teaching, journalism, social work, tourism, financial services, and law amongst others.
Our students are encouraged to be proactive from the outset in terms of gaining graduate level experience alongside their degree; helping to develop awareness of their strengths and interests, and to gain the best possible edge in the graduate labour market.
Students are provided with support to achieve this in a variety of ways. They are offered access to one-to-one careers information and guidance, and events and fairs specifically tailored to particular careers and employment sectors, such as the creative industries.
