The Crito Project Sponsored Walk

From 9-15 August, UEA Philosophy alumni, Ben Walker will be on a sponsored walk around the Southwest Coastal Path. The walk is in aid of the Crito Project, which provides a degree-level education in Philosophy, Logic and Ethics to prisoners serving their sentence in the East of England.

Running from Minehead in Somerset, up and down along the Jurassic Coast of Devon and Cornwall, and ending in Poole Harbour in Dorset, the path stretches for 630 miles. The total height climbed has been calculated to be 35,031m, almost four times the height of Mount Everest.

The Crito Project is an exciting new project that uses an education in Philosophy to try and make a lasting difference to individual lives.

Previous alumni events

An alumni networking event took place on 6 March 2013 at UEA. The event had three main aims:

  • To reconnect philosophy alumni to the UEA (just in time for the University's 50th Anniversary)!
  • To inspire our current students by sharing previous students' experiences of the diverse directions that a degree in philosophy can take.
  • To celebrate the success of our alumni.

John Collins, our Head of Philosophy, kicked off the evening with a few words. This was followed by a few short presentations from our alumni describing how their degrees have underpinned their career paths. A wine reception rounded off the evening, giving our academics, students and alumni the opportunity to engage in an informal chat.

The UEA alumni pages are a useful resource for all alumni news, services and events.

It would be brilliant for our students to learn about the variety of vocations that have stemmed from a degree in philosophy. If you are a UEA philosophy graduate and would like for us to showcase your career in a case study, then please fill out this questionnaire. Your case study would be presented in a format exemplified on our Graduates' Experience page and will be an invaluable resource for current and prospective students considering whether to do a degree in philosophy or indeed what to do with a completed degree in philosophy.

If are interested in becoming a mentor, you can find information and the application form here. Alternatively, you will have the opportunity to get in touch with members of our mentoring and internship team directly at our networking events.
