We have interdisciplinary links with other specialisms at UEA, including literature and creative writing, film, television and media studies, politics, philosophy and health. In the field of literary translation we have links with The British Centre for Literary Translation (BCLT) to which a number of staff are affiliated.
International links: Collaboration in research on Translation, Intercultural Pragmatics and Metaphor Theory with the Universities of Hamburg, Heidelberg, E.L.T.E. (Budapest), and Strasbourg.
Existing links with University of California, Davis, the Eötvös Lorant University in Budapest and Heidelberg University in Germany provide the foundation for the further development of international research collaborations. The relationship with UC Davis is a particularly effective model of international collaboration because it embeds cross-linguistic research in an exchange programme involving both staff and students.
We host visiting scholars from around the world. In 2012-13, we were visited by Huihua Zhu, a lecturer from the School of Foreign Studies, Jiangsu Normal University, China. She had a special interest in discourse analysis with a systematic functional approach. During her visit here she was involved with corpus-based contrastive research on modal expressions in news reports and editorials, as well as attending research seminars and other academic events.
Our Postgraduate students also edit UEA's Norwich Papers, issues of which are devoted to translators and translation.
