Hello! My name is Nissi Kristo and I’m currently studying Pharmacy at the University of East Anglia (UEA). I’ve been in Norwich for 4 years and I’ve always enjoyed my time here. Initially, I came for a Foundation year at INTO so I could adapt to UK's education system and the British culture. A family friend recommended Norwich because it’s known to be a really safe city and so it was the ideal place as an introduction to a new country. I fell in love with the community, the city and the fact that nature surrounds the whole campus. UEA’s ranking for my chosen course has always been within the top 15 in the UK and that solidified my decision to continue studying here.
Pharmacy is quite an intense course, but the support from the lecturers and fellow students is incredible. If I ever need help, I know who to contact without hesitation or fear of judgment. The library on campus is open 24/7 and so it's become my sanctuary for when I need to focus and get work done. Having said that, I love being able to study with a view so you'll most likely find me in front of the huge windows facing the campus broad.
The university has been a great platform to expand my perspective, skills and work experience. The student population is so diverse and multicultural which opened my eyes to the world. I've gotten to know most of my friends through societies where we bond through similar interests. In terms of experience, CareerCentral and Students' Union on campus offer various job opportunities which are suitable for students. Through them, I've found work I'm genuinely interested in which benefits me for my future career.
You might be thinking ‘how does one have fun in a small town like Norwich?’ Well, there’s quite a range of options that you could choose from; there’s bowling and trampolining at the Riverside area, laser-tag and late-night karaoke in the city, not to mention the numerous gigs in UEA’s LCR every week. Getting to the coast is very simple as well; buses and trains going to Cromer or Great Yarmouth are available every day for a short escapade to the beach. Plus, London is just a few hours away, while our closer neighbour, Cambridge, is an hour away - the best place to learn punting whilst seeing the colleges from a different point of view.
All in all, Norwich is an amazing city filled with beauty and history. UEA is charming university, with its distinctive lake on campus.
