Six researchers at the University of East Anglia have been named in the annual Highly Cited Researchers list for 2025.
They are among 10 based across Norwich Research Park included in the Clarivate Web of Science Group list.
The initiative recognises the 6,868 most influential researchers in the world, representing those ranking in the top 1% by citations in their specific fields of expertise.
The citation analysis identifies influential researchers determined by their peers around the world.
Being highly cited in a particular research field is earned by delivering high quality research throughout the length of a researcher’s career.
Those on the list and their areas of specialism are:
• Dr Jun-Hwa Cheah, Norwich Business School, specialises in digital marketing, technology marketing, consumer behaviour, data analytics and statistical modelling.
• Prof Jonathan Jones, The Sainsbury Laboratory and School of Biological Sciences, studies how plants resist disease and how pathogens evade or suppress the detection and resistance mechanisms of their plant hosts.
• Prof Corinne Le Quéré, School of Environmental Sciences, studies the interactions between climate change and the carbon cycle.
• Prof David Livermore, Norwich Medical School, specialises in the evolution and dissemination of antibiotic resistance and its relationship to antibiotic prescribing
• Prof Robert Nicholls, Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, researches long-term coastal engineering and management, particularly the issues of coastal impacts and adaptation to climate change.
• Prof Cyril Zipfel, The Sainsbury Laboratory, studies the molecular basis of plant innate immunity and aims to decipher signalling events linking the perception of pathogen-associated molecules to the establishment of immunity.
Prof Julian Blow, UEA Pro Vice Chancellor, Research & Innovation, said: “I’m delighted that once again UEA researchers have been recognised for their excellence in a range of fields.
“Their inclusion with colleagues from across Norwich Research Park demonstrates the significance and outstanding achievements of the work undertaken, confirming our collective influence, both nationally and globally.”
The UK has the third largest amount of citations with 570 researchers listed, which accounts for 8% of the total list.
The inclusion of 10 researchers from Norwich Research Park is a measure of the exceptional impact that scientists based there are making globally.
The list features researchers from more than 1,300 institutions in 60 countries and regions.
Prof David Livermore, Prof Paul Hunter, Prof Sophien Kamoun, Prof Jonathan Jones, Prof Cyril Zipfel made the list, which celebrates some of the most influential researchers in the world today.
