UEA was delighted to host a visit by Her Excellency Diana Vanegas, El Salvador Ambassador to the United Kingdom, in Norwich on 28 March 2025.
Ambassador Vanegas met firstly with Art & Humanities Pro-Vice-Chancellor Catherine Richardson and Karina Aveyard, Director of UEA Green Film Festival. Together they visited Cinema City to discuss arrangements for an upcoming event showcasing films from El Salvador – one of the feature events on this year’s UEA Green Film Festival programme to be held on 2 May.
The May event will premiere two new films: On the Verge of Extinction and El Salvador Untamed, to be introduced by the Ambassador who will return to Norwich for the occasion.
Dr Karina Aveyard, Director of UEA Green Film Festival, said: “It is an honour to be working with the El Salvador Embassy to bring two new films to Norwich, showcasing the spectacular natural world of El Salvador and its inspirational environmental guardians.”
The party then travelled to campus to receive a guided tour of the new Sainsbury Centre exhibition ‘A World of Water’, meeting Head Curator Tania Moore and Art and Climate Curator Ken Paranada.
This was followed by a lunch at the Sainsbury Centre Modern Life Café, joined by Vivien Easson (Director of Admissions, Recruitment and Marketing) and Dr Kim Ridealgh (Head of School Media, Languages and Communication Studies).
Over lunch, the Ambassador discussed the programme of transformation of education currently underway in El Salvador and the positive outlook for all areas of learning from schools through to the highest level of university degrees. There were very productive discussions about possibilities for educational partnerships and student and staff exchange that will continue in the coming months.
Tickets for On the Verge of Extinction and El Salvador Untamed can be booked online.
