The University of East Anglia (UEA) is proud to return to the Royal Norfolk Show 2025 with an inspiring range of hands-on exhibits and impactful stories that showcase our world-leading research and deep roots in Norfolk’s communities.
UEA will be a major feature in this year’s STEMM Village and main university marquee, highlighting innovation across science, health, climate, and culture – and offering rich opportunities for media coverage, interviews, and film.
And UEA’s Sportspark will also be running the Sports Zone, with lots of fun challenges and activities for people to try.
Explore how UEA researchers are transforming lives and health:
CivicUEA / Nourishing Norfolk | Connecting Communities, Dr Sarah Hanson: Connected communities is at the heart of a major academic evaluation of Norfolk Community Foundation’s ‘Nourishing Norfolk’ programme, a network of social supermarkets across Norfolk. Nourishing Norfolk provides access to affordable food through a network of local food hubs - reducing food insecurity and building a sense of community and belonging. Nourishing Norfolk meets people where they are, enabling people to buy affordable food in a dignified way and equipping people with the tools and confidence to thrive. Led by Dr Sarah Hanson and Anna Sweeting, UEA, and supported by The National Lottery Community Fund, the report highlights the importance of community-led approaches that help to reach new communities.
ClimateUEA – Going Coastal | Dr Jessica Johnson: Telling the story of why coastal erosion happens, how it has happened, and how we monitor it. There will be a video of coastal processes looped on a screen and a 3D printed scale model of a stretch of coastline that people can view and touch to experience the different formations and textures. There will also be sonification of coastal vibrations and images of sonification of different coastal activities on display.
CreativeUEA – Navigating Digital Media | Sea Sources, Dr Rebecca Pinner: Take a deep dive into the sea as a source of cultural, artistic, philosophical and imaginative lives and livelihoods. Try your hand at fishing in our ‘sea of inspiration’ and join us to share and explore your thoughts, experiences and ideas about the significance of the sea.
HealthUEA – Smell Loss Research | Smell Self-Care, Sanjoli Mathur, Gabija Klyvyte, Tabitha James, Timoleon Siempis: This exhibit will demonstrate the findings of the team’s APOLLO trial for smell loss. COVID has caused smell loss/change in up to a million people in the UK since 2020. The audience will be able to see the brain activity changes before and after treatment and how this may have benefited recipients of the treatment. Interactive activities will help aid the public’s understanding of the importance of smell as one of our key senses.
